New rule.

11. Comments are limited to the topic and scope of the thread. Any digression will follow with a warning, and continuing with the digression will result in having all posts that digress from the original topic and scope of the thread deleted.

2 days to comply.

TD,

I've found that some of the more entertaining discussions occur when the topic of conversation is allowed to flow naturally, rather than be forced to into a narrow groove.

It's your blog, of course, but I would urge against taking this rule too seriously. By the time you hit 50+ comments, the thread is away and running and you don't really have too much control over where it has ended up.

If people are deliberately derailing a thread to avoid answering a point or just to troll in general, then yes, invoke #11. But if it's just the natural flow of the conversation then I think you should just let it slide.

Cheers,

TD,
You can take your stupid rules and stick them up your holy spirit's ass while jacking off on a picture of your effiminate Jesus.
You are a fucking retard.

I can't see the comment that the froggie quote was taken from.

Was it from another blog post or was it from here but deleted?

It was deleted stew, I forgot to delete my response to it.

Things are going to get rather interesting if random comments go missing but responses (including now-deleted comments) are kept...

lol oh I'm in trouble with this one, I have a terribly wandering mind.

May we make suggestions or requests for new topics if the discussions start to evolve ;)

sorry, the last statement in my comment was in the form of a question, I forgot my question mark.

Correct, that is why I deleted my response.

Hey TD, quick question if that's OK: Why the reference to Tao in the blog URL? Are you simply using it as an alternative to "way", or are you making a reference?

I like to think of myself as a philosophical Taoist, hense my interest.

Cheers,
Qu.

Both actually. It is an alternative to "way" and a reference to Bruce lee's book, tao of jeet kune do.

Could that be paraphrased as "Talk about what I want you to talk about or be deleted." ?

Slighty off topic: Comment approval is one way of killing conversation.

I agree with the comment moderation thing - I hate it.

How about;

Rule 12:

There will be no comment moderation however, warnings will be given for inappropriate language and a '3 strikes and you're out' policy will be in place.

?

There are a number of Christian blogs that have removed moderation and, in general, people keep it civil and the flow of conversation improves.

/2 cents.

You're so incredibly ignorant. There is nothing wrong with keeping the scope of the discussion about the original topic. If you want to talk about other things I have a forum.

Slighty off topic: Comment approval is one way of killing conversation.

So is your ignorance.

I would love to, if people like froggie wouldn't spam my blog. If you can find me a way of banning him without comment moderation I wouldn't need it.

ExPatMatt said...

You could always ask him nicely.

Not after the comment he made.

He is permanently banned now, so the only way I can stop him from posting is to use comment moderation, since I do not want to delete every single comment he makes after he makes them.

ExPatMatt said...

I see.

tsk tsk froggie!

I'm no great shakes at this internet stuff, but I'm sure there's a way to ban certain ISPs.

Shame.

TD,
This is your house and I respect that.
I don't want to ruin the open dicussions so I give you my word that I will not comment here.

If I decide to make any comments on your posts, I will do so at SMRT.

At least turn off the moderation and give it a try. I will not comment.

I am also posting this comment at SMRT.

If you want help moderating I'd be happy to help :)

I allowed this to be posted so everyone can see froggie gave me his word, he is still permanently banned though. I'll turn of moderation now.
